THE FESTIVAL OF WORDS is a four-day event that includes poetry and storytelling performances and workshops available to the public.  The Festival has something for everyone with readings by Louisiana authors; Open Mics; and Workshops in the schools and the Grand Coteau, Sunset community.  The first one took place on October 15 -- 18, 2008.

Everyone, young and old, can participate in the poetry and storytelling workshops and Open Mic events.  The festival offers classes for children in local schools and workshops for all ages in the evenings.

2009 Schedule and Presenters
The Festival of Words is funded in part by a grant from the Southern Arts Federation in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. It is also supported by a Grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, in cooperation with the Louisiana Arts Council as administered by the Acadiana Arts Council. The festival also receives support from Frederick L’Ecole Des Arts, Inc., and The Thensted Center; Casa Azul Gifts; The towns of Grand Coteau, Sunset and Arnaudville, The South St. Landry Parish Community Library, the Town Market Rural Arts Centre, the St. Landry Parish School Board, Walmart, David and Jonella Hayes, Connie McDonald, Agnes G. Stelly,  Olan Thibodeaux, and many generous donors and caffeinated volunteers.

2nd Annual Festival of Words

This 5-day literary arts event takes place October 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31st.  Join us for writing workshops, readings, poetry drive-bys and many other events in Grand Coteau, Sunset and Arnaudville, Louisiana.

The Festival of Words workshops are free to high school and college students.

Not a student?  please don't stay away, even if you are feeling a little pinched and can't afford to pay.  We are honored to have you as our guest.  Just come on in!
